Finally...Thank you Rev. Stenhouse!

Last month I teamed up with Marc Odien from WNYmedia and took a closer look at Rev. Stenhouse's blighted collection of houses that ring the new home of Performing Arts HS. Rev. Stenhouse does a few things. He's Executive Director of Bethel CDC - owner of the houses featured in last months postings - and also fills the position as Secretary/Treasurer of the Buffalo Fiscal Stability Authority, aka Buffalo's Control Board.

Well at some point last week the houses were secured. So a big thank you goes out to Rev. Stenhouse for getting this job done. Aside from the City of Buffalo, Bethel CDC is the largest owner of blighted and boarded houses that students attending the 30m renovation of Performing Arts HS in the Fall will have to look at. Imagine looking out your classroom window at this...yuk!

Will be keeping tabs on just how secure these places remain. Kind of makes you wonder - Who's controlling the controllers?

does the rev serve god or mammon?

    Bill,

That's a stretch. What I think is really happening is that Bethel CDC has most probably bitten off a few more projects than they can handle.

are the holdings of bethel cdc as extensive as those of the mbba?
does the bethel cdc sell or rehabilitate any of its old houses?

We look but we do not see; primary access points not even touched...basement windows!

    Bill,

Bethel owns a number of properties here in the neighborhood. They also team up with other organizations and build "vinyl victorians."

    Mark,

    Come on...they're trying!

Rev. Stenchbutt needs to let 1st time homeowners buy these "homes" so we can see some positive movement. He has a string of crackhouse dumps he is not taking care of.

Here's a thought. 7000 Iraqi refugees will be allowed to enter the US, meanwhile there are people homeless from Katrina. If there could be a city/religious/charity coordinated effort to help some of them find there way to Buffalo. Perhaps grants could be found to rehab some of the houses for them.
And then they are on there own. Remember Buffalo grew in the 19th century on account of large scale immigration from Europe. As I said, just a thought

qreat idea jefferson! bring in more people who dont wanna work, sell drugs, mug and rob. if you give em some of your houses that will increase crackhouse numbers and make buffalo less safe than it already is.

There is a quality even meaner than outright ugliness or disorder, and this meaner quality is the dishonest mask
of pretended order, achieved by ignoring or suppressing the real order that is struggling to exist and to be served.
